A Long Journey

After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. — Matthew 2:9-10

Those men followed that a star a long, looooong time. For more than two years, they watched the sky, and when the star moved, they followed it. They trusted their gut feeling that it would lead them to a newborn king.

But despite the signs and their gut feelings and their trust, two years is a long time to follow a dream they had no assurance would ever become reality. Surely they grew tired. Surely they became weary and discouraged.

Sometimes, our journeys seem long. We become tired and weary and discouraged, and our faith wanes. We wonder if our hopes will ever become reality or if we're just chasing stars. But we should never give up when it comes to following the path God has set before us. Oh, the road may be long and curvy. But the same God who led those wise men to the Christ child is leading us. The same God who whispered into their spirits and promised them that if they'd just believe, they'd receive a special blessing—He whispers those same promises to us. If we follow Him and don't give up, we will be blessed.

Dear Father, I get tired sometimes. Help me to follow You and not give up. Amen.
