A Spirit-Filled Mindset

Read

"Now the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace. The mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit to God’s law. Indeed, it is unable to do so. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God." Romans 8:6-8

Reflect

We read many articles and books about the concept of “capturing our thoughts.” Where does our mind go? What does it mean to truly have a mindset of the Spirit? God's word promises us that a mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace, but what must we do to maintain that mindset?

The Spirit-set mind is placed under the influence of Christ through the Spirit within believers. To be under the influence of someone, you obviously have to spend time with them. We have to remember God’s word is supernatural, and the more time we spend in it, the more we will be influenced in it. We will be influenced in our choices, how we handle temptation, how we handle sin, and we will continue to grow. The words of God are just as powerful today as they were when they were spoken by Jesus Himself.  God’s word never changes.

On the opposite end, if we do not submit to God’s law, we are dismissive and not submissive of God’s word, then we will feed our flesh, therefore, leading to a calloused heart. We become desensitized to sin, and our flesh grows. In turn, this leads to the opposite of life and peace. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), yet, submission and obedience brings life.

Where are you spending your time? What are you choosing to think about? Are you growing loser to Christ each day? Are you being influenced by His word? Take some time to meditate on these things this week.

Pray

God, I thank You that Your word sustains me, gives me life, and gives me peace. Thank You, Father, that I don’t have to live in sin, but that I have obtained righteousness through Jesus because of what He did on the cross. Help me to continually grow closer to You. Amen.

Your Turn

Where are you choosing to spend your time? Are you living with a Spirit-filled mindset, or are you feeding the flesh?
