Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2)
Rash words, impulsive decisions, selfish motives, the list goes on and on. Life in this fallen world is a battle to walk in the Spirit and deny the raging desires of the flesh. If we are honest, even our best attempts to "be better" often fall woefully short.
The reality of existing in a fallen frame that embodies the living Spirit of God means that we are truly at war with ourselves. Without faithful diligence, we tend to live life in a default and reactionary mode and experience chronic disappointment.
Thankfully, God is never surprised or shocked at our weakness. Each failure is a beautiful reminder of the glory of Calvary. We never stop needing our Savior. Powerful exhortations throughout Scripture remind us that we play a vital role in the resistance against our carnal nature.
Renewing our minds starts with consistent time in the Word and time spent in prayer, arming ourselves for the battle we are in. Let’s not underestimate how vital this is. The struggle is real but the victory has been won!
Sovereign Father, thank you that although I stumble and fall, you have given me all I need for life and godliness. Please give me the strength and courage to battle on knowing that the victory has been won. Amen.
