Read:

“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 ESV

Reflect:

Legalism can be a major struggle for us, especially when we are trying so hard to please a God who is already pleased with us. We are all born into bondage. We are born slaves to our own sin, and until we begin to seek the truth through the word of God, then and only then can we find true freedom.  Sin isn’t necessarily about right and wrong, but about slavery, a slavery we are born into.

We will always deal with this sin this side of heaven, but that’s the beauty of sanctification. It is a continual morphing into the likeness of Christ. This is done not by being a mere Sunday morning Christian, but by digging deep into the word of God, and seeking God and who he is. When we do this, we discover the truth, we discover the truth about ourselves, and the truth about who HE is, and in that, and sisters that is true freedom.

It is so important to not let ourselves become complacent, but to prioritize time in the word of God. When we dig deep, the Holy Spirit begins to move, and we find ourselves changing, not by our own merit, but through Jesus and His power alone.

Pray:

Father I thank you for the salvation you have given us through the sacrifice, of your Son, and for your divine word, which shows us the truth, and shows us who you are. Because of you, I can be free.  Help me to continually be submerged in your word, and let your words sink into my heart, so that I may continually be made more like you every day.

Your Turn:

Do you struggle with legalism?

Do you struggle with spending time abiding in the word?

Spend time in John 8 this week. Let Jesus’ words soak into you.
