Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. - Hebrews 13:13-14
Jesus calls us outside of our comfort zones, outside of the mindset of the world and outside of our sin and He beckons us to join Him on holy ground. Outside.
Times of isolation and estrangement can be common as we align our lives with the things of God. It hurts to be hurdled outside of what was once a safe refuge, but just as Christ was scorned and isolated, we too will often face the reality that we don’t fit in. These moments act as road signs reminding us of the path we are on. The narrow path. The road lightly traveled. We are heaven bound.
As Christ calls us outside, He is removing the prejudice of the world and is illuminating the reality of heavenly glory. Interestingly, much of this work is done when we are uncomfortable and outside of our preferences. It is here that a holy and divine work is taking place.
During the seasons of heavenly homesickness, may we drink deeply from the well of His fellowship. We are in good company.
Sweet Lord Jesus, as you divinely call me outside of what is comfortable, please meet me, walk with me and change me. Give me a heart that burns for eternity and for You. Amen.
Have you faced times of ostracism for your faith? Times when you just don’t fit in?
