“I will betroth you to Me forever; yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and justice, in loving-kindness and mercy.” (Hosea 2:19)
Did you know marriage won’t cure loneliness? Many singles believe it will. But loneliness transcends both marriage and singleness because loneliness is a spiritual condition. And as a spiritual condition, it only has a spiritual solution.
Too often we seek human relationships to still the longings of the heart. While a significant other can fill that void to a degree, ultimate fulfillment is found in the Creator of relationships: God Himself. Before and beyond marriage, Christ is the fulfillment of our every need—emotional, spiritual, and even physical. When we fill ourselves up with the temporal things, we don’t have room for what God would give us—then ask, “God, why don’t you satisfy me?”
If we fill ourselves up on God first, we receive a reservoir of strength. This strength is lived out as we walk by faith in His presence. We are betrothed to Him: committed, consecrated, and covenanted by His love. There is no truer, deeper, more lasting relationship than this.
Lord, help me to find fulfillment in You first.
