"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you." Matthew 6:33

Reflect

During this day and age, women are seeking. We are tired, we are stressed, and we are on the lookout for escape. As a mom of a 13-year-old daughter, I know these feelings all too well. There is a lacking amongst a majority of women that has led us to seek comfort and self-empowerment in everything but Scripture. Books that are sprinkled with half-truths and scripture, such as “Girl, Wash Your Face”, are best sellers not only in the women’s circuit but in Christian retailers as well.

The problem with these self-empowerment books, articles, and Instagram posts, is that they are leading us down a dangerous path; they are leading us away from Christ and to self-empowerment. I’m not saying confidence is a bad thing...it is something we could all use. Our confidence should be based in Christ and in Christ alone.

Sisters, life is hard, but we can’t just push through without leaning on Jesus. We should be going to Scripture first before we go to anyone or anything else. Matthew 6:33 says to seek first the kingdom of God. When we seek God first, things such as rest, peace, and confidence will be provided. That is a promise.

Do you need confidence? Your confidence should be found in your identity as a child of God. Do you need rest? Scripture has a solution for that as well. God cares about life, and He is there to here to navigate us through it with prayer and His word, yet it seems to be our last resort instead of our first, and that makes us vulnerable to things are far from the truths of God’s word. We need to make it our resolution to bring our burdens, our praises, and our lives to the cross. Only then will we find true peace.

Pray

Father, forgive me when I turn to the wisdom of the world. When life is tough, draw me to You and Your Word. Help me to know who You are and who I am in You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Your Turn

Spend time in Matthew 6:25-34 this week. How can we apply this to our daily lives?
