Godly Men Understand Forgiveness and Redemption

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.” Ephesians 1:7

Some women wrestle with deep shame over their past. They wonder if a godly man will ever marry them. They may even believe they don’t deserve to be married to someone who hasn’t failed sexually in the ways they have. Truthfully though, no one deserves the gift of marriage—regardless of the things that fill their past. Before God, all believers are equal because all believers are covered in the blood of Jesus.

I’m not sure if there’s anything that breaks my heart more than a person who hasn’t fully grasped redemption. A man who shames a woman for her past mistakes is not a godly man who truly understands the grace of God. Furthermore, this means he’s blind to the gravity of his own sin before a holy God. Without the knowledge of our total depravity as humans, we cannot fully comprehend the glorious grace which has been placed upon us. Following this logic, we scarcely find it easy to offer the same grace to those who have traveled a darker path.

A godly man is one who humbly recognizes the amazing grace he has received from a good God. This man will look at you—even upon knowing the sin in your past—and see Christ in you.

A godly man recognizes his standing before God is in no way greater than anyone else. He knows it is by God’s grace alone that he stands at all. He understands forgiveness and redemption.

Ladies, be confident in the God who has cleansed you of even the darkest sin you’ve committed. If it’s His will, He will bring you a husband who understands what it means to be redeemed by God.

Father, thank You for redeeming Your people and casting away our sins as far as the east is to the west. May Your praise be continually on our lips. In Jesus' name, Amen.
