Greatness in His Eyes

Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.
Mark 10:43-44

Earthly fame comes from accomplishments. The world idolizes those with medals, followers, and #1 titles. More publicity equals greater glory. But greatness in God’s eyes is so vastly different.

Jesus advised his followers to serve. To find true success, He urged us to put away our wants and desires. This is contrary to the path of recognition that we seek on this earth. That is why we often can’t seek both simultaneously. It is difficult to pursue earthy and spiritual greatness and be mutually effective.

If we want to feel purposeful and accomplished in God’s kingdom, we can dedicate our lives to service and the glory of God. We can visit Christ’s children around the world, volunteer our free time, and watch out for our Father’s children. We can do everything good and honest in His name. This path may not be glamorous or result in trophies and accolades, but it is a privilege. To stand before others in service, as a beacon of God’s love, is one of the biggest gifts we’ve been given. How much our Father must love us, to let us be a symbol and expression of His love?

Being a servant, and putting God and His children at the forefront of our lives is a beautiful sight to the Lord. He will not leave us empty. He will not forget the sacrifices we made to share His love. He will make us great in His eyes for our service. There’s no better place to seek victory. There’s no higher honor than to be seen as great by a precious Savior and a perfect God.

Lord, help us seek greatness on Your terms. When we get caught up in the world’s view of success, remind us that we will find our greatest victory through Your work. Give us a heart for service, and an unconditional love for Your children. Amen
