In Control

And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger. — Luke 2:6-7

Joseph took Mary, his betrothed wife, to Bethlehem for political reasons. He didn't really have much choice in the matter; if he'd failed to register them, he'd have broken the law. But even though it looks like politics ruled their circumstances, we know better. God orchestrated everything—including the time and place required for the census—in order to fulfill His plan.

Sometimes it may feel like we're controlled by our jobs, our schedules, or somebody's political agenda. But God is in control! He knows what He's doing, and and we can trust that He's working all things together for our good and His glory.

Just as the prophets foretold Christ's birth in Bethlehem, God already knows every step of our lives. He knows tomorrow and next week and next month and next year, and He is lining things up to do something great in our lives. Like Mary and Joseph, all we need to do is follow Him, do our best each day, and trust His plan. Just as He brought everything together on that night, He is pulling all things together to fulfill His purpose in our lives.

Dear Father, thank You for having a plan for my life. Remind me that You're in charge, even when it feels like other things are controlling my life. Help me to trust You and follow You. Amen.
