Read:

“so that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”” 1 Corinthians 1:31

Reflect:

We live in a “me” generation, especially when it comes to salvation and Christianity. People somehow always turn the focus on themselves instead of on the One who truly deserves the credit. We love to believe we have something to do with our own salvation…that deep down we are inherently good and are able to choose something as mighty and powerful as God.

The truth is, it’s quite the opposite…Romans 3:10-11 states, “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God.” Just like the issue with the church at Corinth, the root issue with society in thinking we deserve praise for our salvation is pride. We boast in ourselves instead of boasting in the Lord, stealing credit for only what God can do, and feeling sufficiency in our own strength and not God’s. But sisters, the truth is, it’s not about us. It has and always will be about Christ—the reason we are breathing, living, and moving is all because of him. We need to shift the focus from ourselves onto the One who truly deserves all the credit and more.

Dying to self and recognizing we are flawed, sinful humans is one step closer to laying aside our pride and fully devoting ourselves to the Lord. We were made to boast in Christ and give him credit for all things good. This is the root of joy and satisfaction—by boasting in Christ, the weight of relying on our own strength to save us will be completely lifted off our shoulders.

Pray:

Father, forgive me of my pride and selfish ways. Give me a heart that boasts in You instead of boasting in myself and my own righteousness. I know You are the only one who deserves credit for my salvation.

Your Turn:

Do you notice pride in your own heart? How can you turn the focus from yourself to Christ?
