“How joyful are those whose lawless acts are forgiven and whose sins are covered! How joyful is the man the Lord will never charge with sin.” — Romans 4:7-8
If we are experiencing some failures in our health, have problems at our workplace, see discord in our churches, or have busy and stressful days at home – these can all make us feel less joyful. Even a mundane, repetitive schedule can start to drain our joy. We may ask ourselves where the joy in life is, what we can do to change our current moods and circumstances. I am guilty of allowing my circumstances to determine my joy, but the Word tells us that our joy comes from being forgiven. Salvation restores our joy. Psalm 51:12.
How joyful we should be that the Lord will never charge His own with sin! Isn’t that amazing? If we have been saved, and are walking with Lord, then our joy should be based on the fact that we have been forgiven and counted as righteous. This is not to say that if we aren’t happy about something in our lives we should ignore it, I am all for change, trying new things and getting my crazy schedule under control. But let’s not allow these circumstances, temporary as they may be, to steal the joy of our salvation, the joy of being forgiven and justified before the Lord. The fruit of joy should be evident in a believer’s life. Galatians 5:22. Let’s wake up, daily, and invite the Holy Spirit to cultivate a spirit of joy in us!
Father, thank you that I have been forgiven and my sins are covered!
Pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal to you the joy of your salvation, that our circumstances need not be consuming us and stealing our joy.
