Knowing Him

“So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord. His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain watering the earth.”– Hosea 6:3

I spent the beginning of my Christian walk looking to pastors, teachers, books and resources for most of my knowledge of God, depending on them to reveal who He was. It wasn’t enough and it waned heavily on me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not speaking lightly of the position of pastor or teacher, and biblical resources and books can be incredibly valuable to study, but pressing in to know the Lord also involves us personally digging deep into His Word, so we can really know who He is.

The Bible, first and foremost, gives a saving knowledge of God. Salvation must come first in exploring the knowledge of God. Nothing else will be revealed to us without the gift of salvation. Then His Word will start transforming our character; and our godliness will grow and develop. The Holy Spirit will reveal to us who He is, and who we need to be. We can be earnest and intentional in pressing on to know the Lord.  As a result of that, He promises to come to us. We seek, He shows up - and His showing up is certain! Did you read that? It’s CERTAIN that the Lord will come to us; if we are pressing on to know Him.

What a beautiful picture of how the Lord loves us. This whole Universe held in His hands, yet if we are deliberate and purposeful in knowing Him, He will come to us like the rain watering the earth.

Father, thank you that you have given us the gift of knowing you. Thank you for providing Your Word so that we may press on and persevere through knowing You, seeking You, and receiving Your mercy, grace and blessingsPlease keep us ever intentional in our pursuit of You.
