Loyalty and Lions

He delivers and rescues; He works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, He who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions. Daniel 6:27 ESV

He hears a king sob outside, a sharp command, feet shuffling in the dirt rolling the stone away. The lions sleepily lift their heads with a low rumble in their throats but make no move towards him. The sunlight blinds, but he blinks it away to yell up to his royal friend that God has delivered him.
Daniel was second only to a king but following after God was his priority. When the time came to choose loyalty to God or government policy, for Daniel, there was really no choice. He was not shy about his faith, so much so that his employer beseeched God to deliver him the night he was thrown into the lion's den. Daniel's faith was public to the point that his friends, and even his enemies, knew his heart for his Lord. We have daily opportunities to show our loyalty to that same God. We are in this world, not of it (John 17:16). When circumstances are weird and scary, remaining loyal to our God can still be our response. Loyalty to our Lord may appear dangerous but it is never unwise. God honored Daniel's loyalty and He will do the same with us.

Father, You tell me again and again in Your word even when I don't understand what I’m seeing or going through, Your kindness and fierce protection endure forever! Help me remain loyal to You above all others. May my loyalty to You point others in Your direction as well. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
