Making It to the Top

I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. . .I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. — Philippians 3:7, 14

The world believes who you know can take you far in life. You need the right contacts with clout to make it to the top. You need to run with the right crowd to be successful. You may even be expected to do unethical or immoral things to move up in the company. Women are sometimes asked to have affairs with their superiors. You may be asked to lie for your boss, dress a certain way, or flirt with potential customers. This lifestyle is degrading and results in unhappiness and tragedy for many.

God's Word teaches a different example. Knowing Christ is the best decision we can make as we go through life. He will never ask us to do anything immoral but will give us a pure heart and teach us to respect ourselves and others. It may mean we don't run with the popular, successful people. We may get passed over for a promotion or a raise, but knowing Christ gives us hope for the future. As we press toward the mark for a higher calling in Him, we find peace and wisdom in our daily lives.

Father, show me the path I should walk and give me wisdom to take each step, knowing You will walk beside me. Amen.
