Read:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  – Hebrews 12:1

Reflect:

Divide and conquer seems to be an especially efficient tool of the enemy. Loneliness, confusion and a total loss of our real identities commonly cause us to chase after less than holy endeavors. We are reminded by this verse of the rich and amazing heritage we have in Christ. We are joined with a huge number of saints who have cast off the snare of sin and have put on Christ.

The constant theme in the saints’ lives in Hebrews 11 is that they saw God's goodness, mercy and love in the midst of their extreme sorrows. They were keenly aware of their pilgrim status in this foreign land. They heard God’s call to live higher and to live deeper because they saw Him who is invisible. Their lives were far from perfect but they pressed on forgetting the mistakes and focused on the Source of their hope.

When we feel shaken up and forgetful, may we remember the amazing legacy we get to be a part of. We will one day be joined with that great cloud of witnesses declaring the gracious ability of the Father to ransom the lost!

Pray:

Oh Father, what an encouragement Your Word is. Help me to fight the good fight and keep my eyes on You. Amen.
