I labor for this, striving with His strength that works powerfully in me. - Colossians 1:29 (HCSB)
There are times in our lives where we just live overwhelmed. To be busy these days is a way to define our self-worth, meaning the busier I am, the more accomplished I am, and if you aren't busy, you are nobody. This can even bleed into our relationship with God, putting ourselves into a "works based" mentality. Life can get hard, and I have prayed the prayer many times "God I just can't do this anymore!" followed by a melodramatic temper tantrum fit for a 3-year-old.
When we get overwhelmed with life, it is because we are trying to do things in our own strength, and there is no way that we can do things on our own. We don't need a savior just for salvation, we need a savior for every aspect of our daily lives. When we are weary, He gives us rest, when we are empty He fills us up. Instead of waking up and jumping straight out of bed, let's begin each day with the prayer “God, empty me of myself and fill me up Holy Spirit. Help me God, I can't do this on my own.
Make a commitment to keep your eyes on Jesus, and give Him your burdens. Receive the supernatural rest that our Father gives us, one day at a time.
Abba Father, thank you so much that we don’t have to do things in our own strength. Thank you for the rest you provide, but also for the strength that you give us to get through the day. Empty me of myself and fill me up with your Holy Spirit.
What things are you overwhelmed with?
Are you doing things in your own strength?
