Perfect in Weakness

…But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. - 2 Corinthians 12:8-10 NIV

Delighting in a time of trial seems like pure impossibility. Most often, we burrow ourselves away. We want to escape from the pain and numb ourselves to the hurt. However, Christ is a champion for us even when hope seems lost. When we feel weak, lacking, and shattered into innumerable pieces, Christ’s power is made perfect.

When we encounter trials, we are presented with a priceless opportunity. We can hand over our insecurities and broken pieces to Christ, and He can put everything back together. When we turn toward Christ in crisis, we turn away from our own goals and perspectives. Our focus shifts to the perfect power of our Savior, and He is able to pour his loving mercy and power into our lives. Our weakness creates a vulnerability that is lost when we are consumed by our own drive.

In these moments, fully consumed in Christ’s love, our weakness becomes our greatest strength and our failures become triumphs.

Lord, help me to delight in my weaknesses. Help me to turn my eyes and my heart toward you and allow your perfect power to restore me. Amen.

Your turn

Are there areas of weakness in your life that you have yet to hand over to Christ?

Can you recall a time when Christ turned your weakness or difficulty into something positive?
