Pursuing the Pursuer
O God, You are my God; earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh faints for You, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. — Psalm 63:1 ESV
Pursuit has been on my mind and heart lately. Mostly because I only have a general understanding of what pursuit is. It means going after something, right? If one wants a good test grade, study. If you want fantastic dinners, follow recipes. But how does one reach a deeper pursuit with God? Not just the surface level “He makes me feel good” stuff, but the kind of pursuit where the depths of our souls are overwhelmed by Him?
Pursuing a deeper relationship with God begins by realizing He’s pursued you first. He desires us to know Him intimately. And in the mystery of all mysteries, He’s invited each of us into life with Him! Then, out of that overflow of joy in being known by the Uncreated One, respond to Him. He has thoughts and feelings too, and wants us to know Him just as much as He knows us already. We pursue the Pursuer. Take the time today to spend a few minutes in prayer, reading His words, sitting with Him, writing His instructions, or singing your heart out. “You will seek Me and find Me, when you seek Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13 ESV).
Father, I am dazzled by Your pursuit. Please help me learn to pursue You more and more as we walk through life together. I love You with my whole heart. Amen.
