Seek God More Than a Boyfriend
"One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple." Psalm 27:4
If I could sit down over coffee with every young single woman, I would tell them this truth: the idolization of boys is death to your soul.
If you allow your heart to long for a relationship more than the God who created you, you will always come up empty, misguided, and heartbroken. I've witnessed girls turn from Jesus to be found in the arms of a lover who leaves them stranded. I've watched girls strike an X across their purity to feel some sort of worth for a fleeting moment, only to feel utterly worthless in the end. Many are the women who take pleasure in sin and soon taste the poison is produces thereafter. I've been that girl.
What do these women have in common? Christ is not the Treasure of their heart; they lack eyes to see His beauty. Truly, His worth far exceeds any man, relationship, or circumstance. Until He is more to us than all things, we will be left unsatisfied in our pursuits. Your strength will be spent chasing lesser things. Your purity will be sacrificed. Your heart will be crushed.
Only in Jesus is contentment found. Boys will come and they will go, but Jesus remains steadfast. He is the Treasure worthy of being diligently sought.
Oh God, please save us from our hearts that are so prone to wander. We often stray after idols, forgetting how precious You are. Thank You for being our Good Shepherd who chases after us and keeps us near to You. Please cause our hearts to long for You more than anything else on earth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Think about what has captivated your mind most lately. Pray for God to replace it with Him.
