Setting Your Mind On Christ

Read:

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.  – Colossians 3: 1-2

Reflect:

Sin has a common pattern of beginning in the heart, taking over our thoughts, getting into our emotions, and exiting through our actions. Before we know it, we are caught in its web and we falter.

The practice of setting our minds on eternal things is key in recognizing the tactics of the enemy. It’s the act of shutting off social media, not taking that phone call, and specifically scheduling our days so that we intentionally take time to fill our Spirits and remind ourselves of the reality of our pilgrim status.

We must make time for the art of redirecting ourselves to the Source of all order, peace, and truth. As we are filled with His truth, we can more easily recognize the counterfeits that the world barrages us with.

The fruit of the Spirit is a natural byproduct of spending time with the Father. If you notice that your day, your life, and your heart are full of confusion and chaos, then it’s time to be intentional. Carve time throughout your day to refocus on the treasure-trove of heavenly riches that are yours in Christ.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, set my mind on You and on the things of You. Help me to immediately recognize and cast off anything that would harm me or pull my affections from You.
Amen.

Your Turn:

How do you practice the art of setting your mind on things above?

Do you notice how much more you are able to discern truth when you routinely spend time with the Lord meditate on the things of the Him?
