Now then, stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes! - 1 Samuel 12:16
There are 101 things on your to-do list, coffee stains on your new shirt, and you are running 20 minutes late. At this point, the last thing you want to do is stop and listen. Frustration is peaking, and it becomes difficult to hold in the desperation you feel.
More and more, we find ourselves in these situations. We feel like we are always running behind in time and compared to the lifestyles we see around us. We cannot catch up so we cannot stop moving. We live in a state of constant striving, and we miss out on so much happening outside of our priorities.
Samuel was speaking to Israel when he told them to “stand still”, but those are timely words for us as well. We move so much that we cannot hear or see what the Lord would do for us if we only allow Him our attention. God is a gentleman. He will not force His way into our lives. He is waiting for us to stop and cast our eyes upon Him. Our days and years of striving cannot compare to the blessings the Lord has for us if we allow Him moments move in our lives and circumstances.
Lord, help me to put You first on my list each day. Remind me to take time to listen and see what You want for my life. Amen.
How many goals/priorities in your life are based on God’s direction? And how many goals/priorities are based on a desire to match up to an earthly measure of success?
If you are not already, when can you take time each day to stop and listen to the Lord?
