Jesus wept. — John 11:35
God cried. Possibly one of the most profound statements ever penned. The Creator of the universe grieved the consequences of sin on an emotional level. He could have laughed at death or issued a condescending declaration about its soon defeat; but instead, He wept. One truth to be gleaned is that Jesus sympathizes with every aspect of this earthly pilgrimage and He not only knows the pains in our hearts, but He cares for them deeply.
When we are grieved, He understands. When we are disappointed, He knows. When we fall short, He advocates. When we are lost, He is there. When life isn’t panning out nearly as we had hoped, He gets it.
Thankfully, He didn’t stop with tears. He wept at the awful, painstaking agony that sin created and then He conquered it! He did everything that we were hopelessly powerless to do for ourselves in order to bring us to Himself. The unapproachable nature of God’s holiness was bridged at Calvary and this changes everything.
The disillusionment that sin creates won’t last forever. Because of Christ, joy is possible. The lamb has overcome!
Thank you, Sweet Jesus, that you understand our deepest emotions and have overcome every barrier in bringing us to Yourself.
How does knowing that Jesus shed tears over the pain His children were in help you to know Him more deeply?
Do you realize that Jesus knows and understands your every emotion no matter how seemingly unimportant or how all-encompassing it may be?
