Through the Pain

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
Isaiah 43:2

Loss and heartbreak permeates our news stream. It doesn’t take long to find hurt in our own hearts or in those around us. As the pain endures, feelings of loneliness seep through the cracks, and we wonder if the damage is irreversible. How can we come through this unharmed? How can we face tomorrow when days can hold this much suffering?

At some point in our lives, we all feel a pain that shakes us to our core. It looks different to each person, but the pleas to God for comfort and explanation are lifted just the same. God hears His children, and He replies with a merciful truth. He is with us.
Though we feel the frigid flow of the river, and we wipe away the sweat on our brow from nearing flame, God never leaves. It is because of Him that we are able to step onto the shore and away from the fire in one piece. He does not promise that we won’t see the pain, but He promises to bring us through to the other side. God’s presence keeps our feet firmly planted against the currents and our skin free from burns so that we may rise up, as the pain ebbs, and be whole.

Grasp tightly onto the hand of the Father, and He will bring you through the pain.

Lord, as we go through times of pain, show us that you are always by our side. As we push through, comfort us and bring us to a new place of peace. Amen.

Your Turn

Can you think of a time when, because of your reliance on God, you came through a situation that seemed impossible to overcome?
