“But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them.” Luke 2:19 CSB
There is so much beauty in the story of Christ’s birth. As we set the scene here, the Shepherds are now visiting Mary and Joseph, recounting their experience with the angels. Can you imagine the wonder, the excitement, and the joy that was shared between Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds? Mary and Joseph had their own divine experiences, and now they were watching things unfold. The Son of God has been born, and immediately things are set into motion.
Mary carried Jesus in her womb for nine months. Can you imagine not just carrying a child, but carrying the Son of God for nine months as he grew, developed, and formed into a person? Now the nine months of anticipation was a reality, and now Mary was experiencing one of many holy moments, and she didn’t take them for granted; she treasured them, she meditated on them, and she remembered them. Luke 2:51 tells us of another time Mary treasured a moment in her heart as Jesus was found in the temple, engaging with the teachers.
In our spiritual lives, it is important to treasure the Messiah in our hearts. As we grow spiritually, we begin to see Jesus in the little moments in our lives as well as the big ones. To treasure these moments in our hearts gives us strength in our trials, and it helps to keep our eyes heavenward. Keep watch this week, sisters, and find Jesus in your moments...treasure them, meditate on them, and praise Him.
Oh, Father, thank You for Jesus and His birth. Thank You for the life You have given me through Your Son. Help me to see You, Jesus, in every moment in my life. Help me to treasure these things in my heart as Mary did. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
