We Need Friends Who Tell Us Hard Truths
"Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy." Proverbs 27:6
Two days ago, I had spiraled down into a mess of feelings. Some of the feelings were natural byproducts of grief, while others were sinful and selfish. But I couldn’t quite tell the difference between the two. My heart had hardened over like the ice on my windshield, and the worst part was, I wanted it that way. Oh, how wicked we can be.
The Lord providentially planned that I had a friend coming over for coffee that afternoon. This friend cried with me and acknowledged my pain, but she didn’t leave me there. She told me hard truths that I needed to hear and take to heart. And slowly my shell of hardness melted, and my heart was softened.
Ladies, we need friends who are willing to rebuke us. We will not survive the Christian life without them. Godly friends are tools in the hand of God whom He uses to encourage and convict us. We need the friend who isn’t afraid to hurt us in order that God may heal us.
Lord, we thank you that You have provided friends who love us enough to tell us when we are sinning or lying about You with our unbelief. Please give us eyes to see them as the gifts they are. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
Thank a friend today who has been a godly friend to you.
