What Does It Mean to Have Intimacy with God?
"Though you have not seen him, you love him; though not seeing him now, you believe in him, and you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy, because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls." 1 Peter 1:8-9
Have you ever reflected on what it means to have intimacy with God? Many of us are faithful to spend time in the Word. We read, we reflect, and we pray, which none of those are negative things; however, I think sometimes in the era of social media and shared status updates, our intimate times with God suffer.
I love to share what I learn, and I love to share it right away. Many times when God reveals something to me, I want to get on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and share what the Holy Spirit has given me right away, even before my quiet time is finished. Have you ever thought that maybe it isn’t about a certain amount of characters, but maybe sweet moments with the Lord aren’t meant to be broadcasted? Maybe, just maybe, God wants moments to be savored before they are shared.
For those of us with spouses, we are careful not to share every little detail of our most intimate conversations with the world...but why? Some things are meant to be treasured and not shared. Sometimes we need to just be still and enjoy God. Sometimes we need to stay in our prayer closets and relish at what an amazing love our God has for us.
I am not discouraging sharing what you learn; don’t misunderstand me. I love to share what I learn with each and every one of you weekly, but my prayer is I never do it in a hurried spirit. I pray I know and grow to love the Lord with all my heart, soul, and mind...and to do this requires sweet moments that are just ours.
Through quietness, meditation, and being still, our love for God grows. Let's take the time to be still again this week and to get to know our good God.
Father, thank You so much for the ability to have a relationship with You. I pray I grow closer to You each and every day, through shared moments, treasures, and spending time with You in prayer and in the Word. Help me to love You more each day. Amen.
What does it mean to have intimacy with God? How can we be still this week and grow to love God more?
