What to Do When You See Your Lack

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” James 1:5

It was mocking me. Blinking non-stop almost as if were saying, “You’re not smart enough for this. Look at you. Who do you think you are?” “Hey cursor, why don’t you back off!”

Okay, I didn’t yell at my computer, but I did feel my weakness. My lack of wisdom and brain space felt ever close. Truly, I’m not wise enough—I don’t hold between my ears enough knowledge. I still wrestle with pride on a daily basis, and sometimes my heart is hard. I lack so many things. How on earth am I to do the work God has put before me?

It’s a beautiful thing to be met with our lack. What a gift it is to come to the end of ourselves and feel our need for wisdom—for a heart change—and ultimately our need for Jesus.

When your lack is on display like a billboard, praise God for it! Kneel before Him in humility, and ask Him with a pure heart for wisdom and grace to be obedient. He will equip you and provide His strength for the work He’s called you to.

Lord, thank You for showing us our need for You. May we be mindful of it every day. May “I need Thee every hour” be our constant prayer. Please provide us with wisdom and strength to be obedient to You and to glorify You in the work You’ve laid before us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Your Turn

Are you lacking wisdom? Pray to the God of wisdom. He gives without reproach.
