When Fear Envelopes Your Life
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:2 ESV
I remember dating my now husband, Taylor, and fear enveloped every aspect throughout our relationship. You see, we were long distance for nine months, him in California and me in Oklahoma. If you have ever been in a long distance relationship, you know how the uncertainty can be a heavy weight on your shoulders.
The week before Taylor moved to Oklahoma, I called him sobbing with fear about the uneasiness of our situation—what if you get here and we break up? What if this isn’t what God wants? I will never forget his calm and bold response: those things can definitely happen, but God has a plan far beyond what we could ever imagine. We need to cling and take refuge in Him… He is the only One who is capable of being our stronghold.
Ladies, this couldn’t be truer. Whatever you are going through in life, cling to these words in Psalm 18. There is nothing sweeter and more freeing than the blood of Jesus Christ. Heartbreak and trials can never compare to the joy found in Him. When fear is driving our life, it can be easy to question the validity of God and His timing. Take the fears in your life and lay them down at the cross.
Lord, You are my stronghold and my refuge. Whatever trials and fears come my way, point me to the cross and the promises in Your word.
Struggling with fear and a difficult period in your life? Go to Psalm 18 and read the whole passage. How can you turn your fears into faith?
