But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. —James 3:17
Who has wisdom? Look at the fruit of her life. From this verse, we know a wise woman chooses to pursue peace in her community—she forgives someone who hurt her instead of writing him off. She is considerate; she sees others with God's eyes—worthy of her love because they are loved by their Creator, no matter what they have done or left undone. She submits to her Father, learning from Him how to show mercy as He does. Sincerity blossoms throughout her words and deeds.
If this description of a wise woman leaves you thinking That's not me!, don't worry, you certainly aren't alone. Wisdom is a gift from God, born from a desire to follow His Word out of love for Him. Our own efforts can only conjure up an imperfect wisdom and love for others because our natural state is selfish. Humanity lost its capacity to love purely when Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the garden.
Thankfully, Jesus changes our hearts when we trust in Him so we can be wise as He is wise. With the Holy Spirit's help, can grow more like Jesus each day. May His wisdom and love deepen in us and spill over to others!
Father God, thank You for Your promise of wisdom. Grant me a deeper knowledge of Your Son so that I may grow wise in Your ways. Amen.
