Bible Verses to Help Get You Through the Workday
Working a nine to five is no joke. I worked in staffing for years and it was a very challenging, mentally and spiritually draining job. My desk would be filled with sticky notes with scriptures and encouraging quotes to help me make it through the day.
When we focus on putting God first and intentionally seeking His face first thing when we wake-up, it will make a big difference.
Here are some scriptures to help get you through that rough workday. I personalized them so that you can read them to yourself in meditation or even as a prayer.
To start-off my day. This is the day the LORD has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)
On my commute to/from work. The Lord will keep me from all evil; he will keep my life. The Lord will keep my going out and my coming in from this time forth and forevermore. (Psalm 12:7-8)
When I first sit at my desk. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I know that the soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied. I will do all things without grumbling or questioning and whatever I do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. (Philippians 4:13, Proverbs 13:4, Philippians 2:14, Colossians 3:23)
When I am a nervous wreck to meet a deadline. Let the peace of Christ rule in my hearts, since as members of one body I was called to peace. And be thankful. I will not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present my requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus. (Colossians 3:15, Philippians 4:6-7)
When my co-workers are gossiping. He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, Therefore I will not associate with a gossip. I will keep my tongue from evil and my lips from speaking deceit. Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips. (Proverbs 20:19, Psalm 34:13, Psalm 141:3)
When I need to humbly admit I have made a mistake. I will do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, rather, in humility value others above myself. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. (Philippians 2:3, Proverbs 11:2)
At the end of my day. I will come to you when I am weary and burdened, and You will give me rest. I will take Your yoke upon me and learn from You, for you are gentle and humble in heart, and I will find rest for my soul. For Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. You will refresh and satisfy me when I am weary and faint. I will go with you to a quiet place and get some rest. (Matthew 11:28-30, Jeremiah 31:25, Mark 6:31)
Here is a beautiful prayer I found online some time ago, that I know will also help you through your workday. Be encouraged!
Almighty God, whose hands hold all matters of life, give me grace of success in the work that I do. Help me to give it the careful thought and the strict attention that will lead to success. Watch over me and govern my actions, that I may not mar its perfection. Show me how to give my best, and let me not despise the toil that is necessary to complete it. Make my life a successful one, in that every duty you give to me, I do it well. Give me the blessing of your help and guidance, and suffer me not to fail. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
