8 Apps To Help You Stay In God's Word

According to the Daily Mail online, the average smartphone user picks up their phone 1,500 times a week. The average owner uses this device for three hours and sixteen minutes each day - or the equivalent of almost one full day a week. Their study also revealed that smartphones are becoming more of a ‘go-to-gadget’, replacing desktops and laptops, which people only turn to for, on average, 140 tasks in a typical day.

I think it is pretty safe to say that we use our smartphones for pretty much, EVERYTHING, right?

If the average user reaches for their phone (according to the survey) at 7:31 a.m., then it should be the perfect vehicle to help you dive into God's Word first thing in the morning.

With a new month and season approaching, it is a good time to cultivate some new bible study habits, so we wanted to share some of our favorite apps to help you do just that.

In no particular order, here are 8 Apps that are guaranteed to keep you in God's Word everyday (you can thank us later):

e-Sword LT. This is a full-featured application that makes studying the Bible in depth easy and rewarding. It includes full Bible texts in multiple translations and original languages as well as related commentaries and dictionaries to aid in study. I personally use it everyday.

Faithlife Study Bible. I still use my physical Bible, but I always pair it with the FSB.  It comes with several translations to choose from, three layers of study notes, the Lexham Bible Dictionary, Lexham English Bible, and over 400+ infographics and photos. It also offers great community features such as creating and joining groups, and sharing notes and reading plans.

Webster's Dictionary 1828. This app is a recreation of Lexicographer, Noah Webster's 1828 two-volume dictionary originally founded on America's heritage and principal beliefs. It's an excellent reference for classical literature and Bible Studies. Christian readers will find it rewarding to compare Webster's definitions of such words as: marriage, education, sin, law, faith, and prayer, with those given in any modern dictionary. The difference gives an appreciation of early American values. * If you are looking for the original app, they do not have one, however, they have created an online mobile version you can access on your smartphone here. To give myself quick access, I saved it as a bookmark and added it to my homescreen. Pretty easy!

Blue Letter Bible. Just like the Faithlife Study Bible, the BLB app is a great tool to for digging deep into God's Word. The Blue Letter Bible offers over 30 Bible translations, audio Bible, reading plans, Hebrew/Greek Lexicon, commentaries, concordances, and much more.

ESV Bible. Read and study God’s Word through a completely redesigned interface. You also get free access to the ESV Global Study Bible and integrated reading plans, and us the new two-column view to read study content alongside the biblical text. You can also purchase additional resources via the in-app store.

Explore Bible Devotional. The Good Book Company is a Reformed Christian publisher. Their Bible studies, books, devotionals, videos, tracts, evangelistic courses and training materials are used throughout the English-speaking world, and in translation to over 35 languages worldwide. The Good Book Company's flagship product: dated Bible-reading notes that help you to read, understand and apply the extraordinary truths of God's word, every single day..and now it's on an app with reading plans as low as $.99 by teachers such as Tim Keller, Josh Moody, Albert Mohler, Steven Lawson, Trillia Newbill, Tim Chester and more.

The Study Bible. The Study Bible by Grace to You gives you a wealth of resources from John MacArthur and GTY to help you understand and apply God’s Word. Featuring the English Standard Version (ESV), the New American Standard (NAS), and the King James Version (KJV) texts of Scripture, you have immediate access to Grace to You’s sermon archive, featuring more than forty-five years of John’s Bible teaching (well over 3,000 full-length messages) covering the entire New Testament and portions of the Old.

Bible Gateway. The Bible Gateway Bible App is the OFFICIAL and FREE mobile Bible reading and study experience from Bible Gateway, offering many wonderful ways to experience Bible reading and Bible study, including daily reading plans, easily view Bible study resources (Bible Commentaries, Bible Dictionaries, etc.) to help you unpack your Scripture reading.
